Overview
Louisiana State University and Agricultural & Mechanical College had its origin in land grants made by the United States government in 1806, 1811 and 1827 for use as a seminary of learning. In 1853, the Louisiana General Assembly established the Seminary of Learning of the State of Louisiana near Pineville, La. The institution opened January 2, 1860. LSU is located in Baton Rouge, the capital of Louisiana. Baton Rouge means “Red Stick” and was named by French explorers in 1699.
As the Flagship institution of the state, the vision of Louisiana State University is to be a leading research-extensive university, challenging undergraduate and graduate students to achieve the highest levels of intellectual and personal development. Designated as a Land, Sea, and Space Grant institution, the mission of Louisiana State University is the generation, preservation, dissemination, and application of knowledge and cultivation of the arts.

In Louisiana, eating is not just something you check off your daily to-do list; it's a chance to socialize, to experience our culinary culture and, of course, to satisfy your taste buds. First-year students living in East Campus Apartments, West Campus Apartments and Nicholson Gateway Apartments are required to have a resident meal plan.Students can use their meal plans at our two resident dining halls, The 5 and 459 Commons, The Club at Union Square, along with 21+ other locations where we proudly serve 15,000 customers per day.
