About the Program:

Students in the Beverly Public Schools attend general music classes throughout elementary school, and once they reach the 3rd grade they may begin their instrumental music journey if they choose. For more information on our general music program, please see the "BPS Music Program" section on the left under "District Resources". 

    Beginning in 3rd grade, students may  learn a string instrument through our program, and when they reach the fourth grade they can decide if they’d like to play a band instrument. 

Students may benefit from joining an instrumental group as it not only builds individual work ethic through consistent practicing, but also builds camaraderie, social development, and teamwork in the full-ensemble settings. 

Musical ensembles and lessons provide an emotive way for students to express themselves, and they are able to explore and develop their self-confidence through group and individual performances. Playing an instrument involves kinesthetic, emotional, social, and aurally aesthetic aspects. 

Involvement in a musical group where students are able to create music through performance provides a means of exploring music in-depth by providing them the opportunity to delve into the mechanics and technical aspects of it, but also allowing them the chance to experience the nuances that come with being involved in the creating and performance process. Students not only learn to play their instrument, but also learn to listen critically to themselves and one another, as well as create their own music.
