Reminder:
Senator Gillibrand’s Service Academy Nomination application is now open. Interested students may apply for a nomination through Senator Gillibrand’s website at https://www.gillibrand.senate.gov/help/academy-nominations/. The deadline to apply and submit all materials in consideration for a nomination through our office is Sunday, October 12, 2024, at 11:59 PM EST.
Requirements for consideration:
Age: at least 17 years old, but not yet 23 (25 for Merchant Marine Academy) by July 1st of the year of admission
Citizenship: a U.S. citizen and permanent resident of New York State
Marital Status: unmarried, not pregnant, and no legal obligations to support children or other dependents

This event will be hosted by the West Point Directorate of Admissions and UCONN ROTC. Representatives from Admissions will be present at the event to answer any questions.
Military Service Academies:
It is advised that any student interested seek and gather information from military representatives who make periodic visits to our high school, look online, or visit these academies.
Application to a military academy must begin in the junior year.
These schools have as their prime goal the training of young men and women to become career officers in a branch of the armed services.
Service Academies issue a Bachelor’s Degree, as well as an Officer’s Commission, upon completion.
Admission to each of these colleges is highly competitive and the screening process is thorough.
Eligibility: Be a U.S. citizen, unmarried, and between 17 and 23 years old by July 1 of the year you would enter
Academic performance: Have excellent grades and high standardized test scores (SAT or ACT)
Extracurricular activities: Participate in athletics and community involvement
Leadership: Demonstrate leadership potential
Recommendations: Have outstanding recommendations from teachers and others
Medical qualification: Pass a medical exam administered by the Department of Defense Medical Examination Review Board (DoDMERB)
Nomination: Obtain a nomination, either Congressional or Service-Connected
Interview: Complete an interview
It is imperative that prospective candidates begin the process by researching the requirements of the service academies, strictly follow the application procedures as outlined.
