Midwestern Chess League

The Midwestern Chess League is a high school chess league based around the Eugene/Springfield area in Oregon that has been active for over 20 years. The league typically runs from November through February to prepare local teams for the annual Oregon High School Chess Team Association Championships held in late February or early March. Matches are played on Wednesdays from 4 to 6 pm. Last season the matches were held at Willamette HS in Eugene.

The varsity section consists of 5 player teams composed of high school students. A Junior Varsity section will be compete if enough JV teams are available. JV teams may also include players from feeder schools in the 6th - 8th grades. The time control for the games is typically game in 50 minutes with a 5 seconds delay.

The league includes an Open team in the Varsity and JV sections. The Open teams are made up of individuals that do not have enough players at their respective schools to field a team of 5 players. All varsity, JV and individuals will get the opportunity to play a rated match each week. Starting in the 2023-24 season, all games will be USCF rated so players will need a current USCF membership.
