Here is an online app that works to make basic animations.
Essential Question: How can I create an animated sprite?
This is a simple online editor that is used primarily by game designers, but it can be a great introduction to animation for students. In Multimedia class we usually work in Adobe Animate which is premium software that takes a few class periods to get up and running.
Open the link and start to draw a character to get used to the interface.
Create a new sprite and size it 256 x 256. The default image size of 32 x32 is super small! See screenshot for sizing.
✅ Resize the image or it will not be viewable on a computer screen! 32x32 - default is too small. Resize to 256x256. 800x600 is more screen sized and makes a bigger scene.✅
Draw the first frame. Hit the add a frame button or copy the image and draw the next part of the animation. You will see the animation in the play window. Use Onion Skin for animating.
Add frame gives you a blank frame to draw on. Duplicate copies the drawing to add on to it.
Video #1 is a simple stick figure animation.
Video #2 uses color, multiple layers, and cloning
When you are finished, export a GIF. Screenshot added to see how to download the GIF. Add the file to this assignment. Load GIF files into your Google Drive so that we have some for our WordPress websites.
If you want to work on a sprite animation later on, download a .piskel file and save it to your Google Drive.
Extension #1: Make a little scene. Common ones are the growing vine, soccer player makes a goal or other sport, balloons floating by, or just fractal scene changes.
Extension #2: Stick figure fights. Keep it school appropriate!
Extension #3: Get into the art of the drawing and then make the eyes blink or something simple on your animation.
