Important steps
Do your RESEARCH! This may be the most important step of the process.
Consider the various ways to serve and how they match your academic/career goals
Speak with more than one recruiter/branch. Branches vary in many ways (Mission, Career opportunities, lengths of basic training and contract commitment).
Do not sign anything until you’ve fully evaluated all options.
Learn the different between Enlisted (Full time active duty), Part-time service (Reserves), ROTC and Service Academies.
Take the ASVAB (see info below) if offered at school (usually in November/December)
Continue with your HS academics, SAT Test, etc. You need a back up plan if for some reason you're ineligible to serve.

ASVAB Test
The Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery
The ASVAB is a timed multi-aptitude test that is one of the tools used to determine your eligibility to join the military. It’s often given in school and Military Entrance Processing Stations (MEPS).
It will also determine how qualified you are for certain military occupational specialties and Enlistment Bonuses. A high score can improve your chances of getting the desired specialty/job.
