"Reading is a way to experience the world through someone else's eyes; or better yet, to discover a whole new world you'd never imagine on your own. It's a way to expand your horizons without ever leaving your couch. Plus, who doesn't love a well-written story that draws you in and makes you forget everything that's going on around you?"

"To me, reading is a form of escapism where I can enter a different place and time. I enjoy the emotional experience that reading provides as I meet new characters and learn to empathize with them as their personal experiences unfold with the turning of each page.  Reading is also intellectually stimulating, as it can expand your vocabulary, is a great way to learn new things, gain new perspectives, and expand your knowledge. Reading also helps me de-stress after a long day. There is nothing better than a sunny day, a comfy chair and a good book."

Ms. Taborsak, English Teacher

"I've always been drawn to books for the way they can make me both lose myself and find myself between the pages. There are moments of recognition and connection, that make me feel less alone and more understood. There are moments of discomfort and anguish that make me want to question and challenge to make meaningful change. Whether the book makes me soak the pages with tears or laugh out loud or even hurl it angrily across the room, it always makes me think and feel and imagine and wonder- and grow. Books are magic that way."

Ms. McGill, English Teacher

"Reading not only allows me to escape from the everyday but also allows me to get inside someone's intimate thoughts other than my own. I have yet to learn mindreading so in the meantime, no other artform gives a glimpse into an interior life half as effectively. I read to understand other people and also to understand myself. So often, while reading, I want to cry, "Me too!" because the writer shared an insight I've never been able to put it into words.

Lately, I love reading books that have a dark side with complex protagonists. I've been reading a lot of horror. And if it's got a group of characters that descend into chaos (think Lord of the Flies) sign me up!"

"Reading and I are best friends - it knows when I need a break from reality and brings me on adventures, introduces me to new people, whether heroes or villains, and reminds me of what I value. I prefer fiction (suspense and psychological thrillers), but I'll read any nonfiction title if highly recommended."

Mr. Grennan, English Teacher

"I love reading because it connects us with great artists and thinkers throughout the ages and across cultures.  I am especially drawn to historical nonfiction as it merges research and storytelling while providing deeper understanding of complex events.  I also enjoy plays because playwrights envision worlds that need the talents of others to come to fruition. The immediacy and artistry of live theater is an unparalleled experience."

As a super busy mother of three young children, my favorite thing to do is listen to audiobooks while I do chores or drive to work.
