Many people think that a "pre-med" degree in college is the best way to ensure entrance into medical school, but this is simply not true. As you can see from the data in this graphic, a higher percentage of students from hummanities majors are accepted into medical school each year than any other degree program. Though this is a very small number, making up an extreme minority, the message is clear: medical schools value well-rounded candidates who have experiences and viewpoints beyond the field of medicine itself.

Take a look at the results of this recent search I performed on www.onetonline.org for the word "chemist". Notice all of the listed careers or jobs thjat relate to chemistry? A bachelor's degree in chemistry is a great way to preapre yourself for a wide range of possible careers, these are only those that include the actual word "chemist" in their descritption; there are many others such as those in medical professions that are not even listed here. Also, notice that most of these jobs have a yellow sun icon, which indicates they are expected to see rapid growth in the near future. In short, Chemistry is great college major that offers students plenty of fun in the lab, a broadly applicable education, and a bright future in the workforce!
