Welcome back Bethel students! You studied off-campus fall (2025) or January (2026), and we know you have photos of cultures, people, food, wildlife, that you fell in love with. Now is your chance to share a finite piece and portion of your time abroad with the rest of our Bethel community.
Introducing Bethel University's Study Abroad Photo Contest open to all students who studied off-campus during the above terms! See below to learn how to enter, what to enter, and what you'll win:

We will accept entries via email until Friday, March 13th! Winners will be announced around early April.
You may submit up to THREE photos per program you participated in:
The person submitting the photo must have personally taken the photo.
No heavily edited photos.
Each entry MUST be submitted with complete accompanying information or will not be accepted (see details in "How to Enter" below)
*NOTE: If you have studied abroad more than once, you may submit up to THREE photos per term abroad (ie. three photos for your summer program and three more photos for your January program)
How to Enter:
Compose an email (one email per photo) to study-abroad@bethel.edu.
Subject line: Your name + Bethel Photo Contest
The content of your email should include the following student information:
Your Name
PO#
ID#
Name of Study Abroad Program
Term of Study Abroad (Spring 2025/Summer 2025/Fall 2025/January 2026)
Type the statement in full: "I verify that I am the photographer of this picture, and I agree to the terms of the photo contest." (Terms listed below)
Category of submission
Title of submission (name of photo)
City/country where photo/video was taken
Description of the photograph/multimedia (e.g. the circumstances, the event depicted, the significance of this photo to your experience abroad, etc)
Attach the file to the email, making sure your last name + abbreviated title is part of the file name (we prefer names that are a little more descriptive than DSC00394872958235.jpg!).
SEND! (We will reply to confirm your entry has been received. Allow up to 2 business days for a response before checking in.)
Repeat these steps for each photo entry (up to 3)
Categories: Submissions should fit into ONE of the following categories:
#BethelAbroad: Photographs of yourself, Bethel students, or Bethel faculty.
LOCAL FACES: Photographs of local people, strangers, people you came to know.
CITY VIEWS: Can include buildings, landmarks, architecture, cultural texture, and other scenery.
NATURAL WONDERS: Including wildlife, flora and fauna, seascapes, forestry, mountains, sunrises/sunsets, clouds, animals, etc.
FAVORITE MEMORY: representing the highlight of your time abroad, which can include favorite spots in town, homestays or housing, friendships abroad, food, cultural traditions and holidays, a memorable moment, etc.
*Note: The top voted photo from each category will win a $50 prize. For better chance of winning, we recommend submitting photos to various categories and using the description to craft an enticing narrative that will help the voting committee fully grasp the image. Of course, you can submit three different photos in the same category as well.
Entries will be judged on:
Appropriateness to category
Artistic and technical quality
Uniqueness
Reproducibility
The winning students in each of the five categories will receive a $50 prize and a certificate of recognition, as well as a complimentary print of their winning photo. The runner up in each category will also be recognized.
The study abroad office will be responsible for producing enlargements from the winning photos, mounting them, and displaying them.
All winning entries including runner-up, and their productions will be the property of Bethel University's Study Abroad Office.
Each entrant will give Bethel University the right to reproduce prints from his or her entries and to display and use digital images or reproductions in college publications, websites, powerpoint presentations, BU Digital Library and for institutional promotional materials of any kind.
