Register with the U.S. Department of State before leaving the U.S.
When an emergency happens, or if a natural disaster, terrorism, or civil unrest strikes during your foreign travel, the nearest U.S. consulate will be a source of assistance and information.
By registering the dates you will be in a foreign country, you help the embassy or consulate locate you when you might need them the most. Given the current international situation, it is very important to take this simple precaution.
