Wilderness Day on Friday, Sept. 12th was a blast! We started by putting on Frogg Toggs to protect our clothes...
And then walked down the bikepath to Waterford School, to explore "Nature's Classroom."
Each student was given a spot to sit for 10-15 minutes, and provided with a clipboard, paper, pencil, and crayons.
Students were asked to observe and draw what they saw around them.
We sat in a circle to chat about what we saw and drew.
Mr. Friesen and Mrs. Hofer talked about different plants we might see while exploring, and which plants or areas to avoid.
We had a blast exploring and collecting items from nature!
After about half an hour of exploring, we packed up the wagon and walked back to school.
We used our collected nature items to make Art! Mrs. Hofer only took one picture during this process due to facilitation and supporting students. After lunch, we walked down the bikepath in the opposite direction to the Morris property to enjoy their special playground (Mrs. Hofer also failed to take pictures of this). It was a fun and tiring day!
We began exploring our hands-on learning trays this week!
Our new playscape saw so much meaningful play this week! From climbing, hanging, and balancing...
...to cooperative and creative play, I absolutely loved seeing all the ways kids were learning through play!
The hammock was a huge hit. :)
I can't wait to see all the ways in which the new playscape continues to support student regulation, learning, and growth this year!
