Individual counseling is a vital support in the school and the primary focus of the school counselor. Throughout the school year, Mrs. Mooney will provide ongoing contact with students who have social or emotional difficulty.

Any student may see the school counselor by:

  • Requesting a visit

  • Being referred by a staff member

  • Being referred by a parent/guardian

Some students may have greater needs that go beyond the scope of school counseling. Resources for outside services are available upon request.

During individual and group counseling, students are encouraged to share their feelings, thoughts, and experiences. Since the stories told by young children are unique and sensitive, children are instructed that what they share is confidential, or kept private. Students will be encouraged to share their feelings with their families. It is important that children and parents know that anytime a child tells of a serious situation or danger to himself/herself, or others, the counselor is required to share this information to appropriate authorities, parents, or helping professionals.
