Practical Strategies for Low-Incidence Classrooms
This targeted training is designed specifically for special education teachers supporting students with low-incidence disabilities. In complex learning environments, clarity, consistency, and calm are essential, and this session provides a toolbox of practical strategies to help create just that. We’ll dive deep into: Visual Systems That Work; Co-Regulation & Vestibular Regulation; Functional Communication Tips & Tricks; Working With Paraprofessionals; and Schedules & Social Stories That Stick.
Within these topics we will include content on the importance of daily living skills in fostering independence and quality of life, including key areas of functional living skills appropriate for different developmental levels and generalizing those skills outside of the classroom environment. This session is highly practical, rooted in real classroom experience, and packed with tools you can apply immediately. Whether you're setting up a new program or refining your current systems, you’ll leave with strategies designed for high-needs, high-impact environments.

Alternatives to Standardized Assessments and
Eligibility for Speech and Language Services
Participants will review and discuss non-standardized protocols to supplement an evaluation of a student for speech and language services in the educational setting.
Objectives:
Review multiple options across areas of the practice.
Discuss documentation of non-standardized protocols based on their educational impact.
Discuss the importance of student self-advocacy in the evaluation process.
Discuss the importance of consistency with teacher input in the evaluation process.
Review eligibility criteria utilized in districts across Berks County.
