Common Inservice Opportunities

 Welcome to Berks County Intermediate Unit's Common Inservice 2024 Information and Registration site!

Find the session appropriate to your role in the list below. Registration will need to be completed in Frontline. 

All sessions will run 8:00-3:00 (unless otherwise indicated), with an hour lunch on your own.  

Locations are listed in the descriptions.  All participants will receive 6 Act 48 hours.

English language development

Join your colleagues for a day of learning and sharing at Oley Valley Middle School.  Dr. Andrea Kolb from WiTf will present in the morning and will speak to the definition of immigrant, refugee, undocumented and asylum seekers as it relates to our students and how to support them in our classrooms. She will provide resources and strategies that support the families in our communities as well. We will spend the afternoon networking and collaborating with the information shared in the morning session.

Gifted Education

Join your colleagues for a day of learning and sharing at BCIU's Main Office.  Margaret Foster will be leading the day for this network group on the topic: "Gifted, Stressed, and Struggling: Can emotional regulation show us the path forward?"

School librarians

Join your colleagues for a day of learning and sharing at Reading Public Museum.  Meet Ryan Rydzewski and Gregg Behr, authors of When You Wonder You Learn; Mr. Roger's Enduring Lessons for Raising Creative, Curious Caring Kids.  Ryan and Greg will lead you through a morning of activities relevant to school librarians, the afternoon you will have an opportunity to explore two brand-new literature exhibits at the museum and put your learning to work!

Technology & Engineering 

Join your colleagues for a day of learning and sharing. Two tours will happen; one from 10:00 am - 12:30 pm (Glen-Gery, Shoemakersville Campus) and one from 1:30 pm - 3:00 pm (Materion, Shoemakersville Campus).

Teaching Safety Skills to reduce the risk of sexual abuse

In this training, participants will learn about tools and resources designed for teaching students with disabilities about sexuality education. We will also help participants make connections with community resources and community outreach opportunities.
