Things to think about:
What activities have taken place to help the student decide on their shop(s) of choice that is appropriate for their level of academic skills and current needs?
Did the student complete the BCTC Complete the BCTC Application Career Research Activity or a similar process to identify top choices?
Has the student completed any interest inventories? How do they align with their shop choices?
Has the student visited BCTC and/or minimally watched the video(s) of the shop they are interested in applying for?
Has there been communication between the School Counselor/ Transition Coordinator/ Case Manager double checking that the student is applying for shops that are reasonably appropriate for their level of academic skills and current needs
Did you encourage students to utilize information from their exploration activities and experiences in their BCTC Application essay?
Acceptance Process
Through collaborative efforts between districts & BCTC, the acceptance letter has been revised
When a student is accepted (IEP or not) they will receive this version of an acceptance letter.
Check Out the updated letter template BCTC Acceptance Letter Example
Since attending BCTC will require revisions to the IEP, an IEP revision meeting will need to be scheduled by the school district prior to the student starting their program, this meeting needs to include a representative from BCTC.
Minimally, IEP revisions should include the following, refer to district procedure regarding the revision process you should follow.
Transition PLEP: Updated statement stating acceptance and the shop name
Transition GRID:
CIP CODE
Add to COURSE OF STUDY
Add new ACTIVITIES that might apply to BCTC acceptance
SDI Section: adjustments to the accommodations currently in the IEP
LOCATION of SERVICES: include BCTC as a location along with your district school the student is attending
