Welcome to The Odyssey: A Journey Home. This project was created by the students, families, and staff of The Berkeley Carroll School. In January, 30 middle school students began rehearsing an original adaptation of Homer's Epic The Odyssey. In March, Upper School students and staff embarked on a Spring Intensive using devised theater techniques to create a section of the play. They were beginning to teach the material to the Middle School students as we began to shelter in place. The text, video, and research created in those sessions were used as source material for the program you are about to view. Middle school students explored film adaptation with help from their families, their pets, and the wealth of their own creative minds. What follows are 21 film shorts depicting the adventures of Odysseus. Students explored storytelling styles including stop motion animation, shadow puppetry, found image animation, and acting. I hope that you will watch them through and enjoy the daring, the humour, the innovation, and the spirit of the BC students and families. Thank you to all of the students, families, faculty, and artists who helped to bring this project to fruition. We hope you enjoy!
