2026-2027 Rates

Substitute teachers are paid every 15th of the month for all work they completed the previous pay period. Timesheets need to be submitted by the 25th of the previous month in order to be paid on the 15th.

TK-12 Substitute Teachers Daily Rate Schedule

$273.62 for a full day

$136.81 for half a day

Elementary School Substitute Service

Any assignment of three hours and fifteen minutes or more in the elementary schools is paid at 100% of the daily substitute rate. Any assignment less than three hours and fifteen minutes in the elementary schools is paid at 50% of the daily substitute rate. 

Secondary School Substitute Service

Any assignment for three periods or more in secondary schools is paid at 100% of the daily substitute rate. Assignments of one or two periods are paid at 50% of the daily substitute rate. 

Early Childhood Education (Preschool and BEARS) Substitute Service

All early childhood education (Preschool and BEARS) substitute service will be paid at the K-12 daily substitute salary schedule rate. Assignments for fewer than five hours will be paid on a prorated basis. The daily rate is $273.62 divided by 6 so the hourly rate is $45.60. A minimum of two hours will be paid for a substitute called for a portion of the day. Current early childhood education teachers, who work beyond 202 days per year, when working additional days, will be paid at the K-12 daily substitute rate.

Non-Consecutive Periods

Substitute teachers who are assigned non-consecutive periods will be paid for the entire duration of time and substitutes can be assigned to sub for unassigned periods up to 2 periods for a half day and 5 periods for a full day. If a substitute accepts a job that is listed as a "full day" in the system, they will be paid for a full day but can be assigned up to 5 periods. 

• Example - Sub claims a job for a teacher that only teaches four periods of the day in a six period schedule. The site administrator can assign up to one other class period for the sub to cover. The sub does not put this extra job number on the timesheet and is still paid for 1 day with the original job number. 

Multiple Assignments in One Day

If a substitute teacher covers two assignments at the same site in one day, they will receive the full day rate total. If a substitute teacher covers two assignments at two different locations in one day, they will receive the full day rate plus one half day rate total. If a substitute covers a second assignment at ECE or BEARS either at the same site or a different site that extends past the normal work day, they will be paid hourly at the ECE rates stated above. 

Other "Multiple Assignment" Scenarios

• A substitute claims a job where a teacher teachers 5 periods and then is asked if they want to cover a period from another job at the site. They are paid 1 day for the job they claimed and a half day (0.5) for the extra period. They are paid for 1.5 days total. 

• A substitute covers a 0 or 7 period class as a separate job not attached to their other assignment at the site, they shall be paid an additional half day for that extra class. 

VAPA and other Itinerant Positions

Substitutes for VAPA and other itinerant positions who accept and complete two or more half-day assignments at three different sites will be paid a total of 1.5 days, unless the time exceeds 7 hours and 10 minutes, for which they shall be paid 1.75 days. 

Continuous Assignments

After 44 days on a continuous assignment, substitute teachers shall be placed on the salary schedule, retroactive to the first day of the assignment. These teachers are eligible to sign up for medical and dental benefits through the District.

If a substitute teacher is called back for the same teacher in a continuous assignment within five (5) working days that substitute teacher’s term of assignment and pay will continue as if there was no break in service.

If a substitute teacher’s assignment is interrupted by the substitute teacher’s personal illness and (s) he subsequently returns to continuing assignment, this shall not be considered a break in service.

Substitute teachers will not be intentionally terminated from continuing in an assignment to prevent achievement of long term status.
