BHS Counseling Department

The school counseling team is made up of approximately 20 counselors who manage student caseloads based on academic learning communities, specific programs, and focal student groups. Based on assigned caseload, counselors provide differentiated services to students.  Every counselor’s role and responsibility includes all three of the California school counseling program areas, however, the counseling team is organized to allocate tiered supports collaboratively, using an asset framework to serve each student and meet them where they are at a given time of need.

The counseling program is aligned to a Multi Tiered System of Support (MTSS) model for providing student services. Alietta Ortega Mendoza, is the lead counselor and PD Coordinator. Vice Principal of School Climate and Student Wellness, Doreen Bracamontes, supervises the school counseling program.
