PLEASE READ:
Graduates should check-in at the registration tables in Cross-Sproul Path by 8:00 AM. When you arrive in front of Zellerbach Hall, please follow the signs to Cross-Sproul Path and walk down to the right side of the building where you will see check-in tables. Check-in will be organized by major. All participating graduates will receive a name card upon arrival at the theatre, with any phonetic spelling that is indicated on the registration form, so that their names can be read aloud, and correctly, at the podium on stage. After you check in, please line up single file immediately with the other graduates in your major. You will see signs for each major and you will line up behind your major sign alongside the Alumni House side of the Cross-Sproul Path. Departmental Citation winners should report to staff at the check-in tables at Cross Sproul Path at 8:00 AM. When citation winners check in and receive their name card, they will be instructed to take their place at the head of the line for their major.
Doors will open to guests at 8:00 AM. Please encourage your guests to arrive at 8:00 AM and to be seated by 8:30 AM. While graduates are processing into Zellerbach, guests will not be allowed to enter.
Graduate lines will be guided up to the Zellerbach front doors at 8:30 AM.
We suggest that you do not bring a bag into Zellerbach as this may slow down the flow of graduates into the venue. It’s fine to bring keys and cell phones in your pockets. But please do not bring lots of keys or large keychains. If you bring a bag, you may need to step out of line to have it scanned and you could lose your place. Please check back periodically for updates.
Graduates will be seated with their major groups. Within major groups, there is no particular order graduates must be seated.
Please be alert for additional announcements by staff prior to the ceremony.
For additional information important to you and your guests, please read “Day-of Information for Guests."
Please note that a reception will not be held after the ceremony.
Graduate caps, gowns, and other regalia are available at the Cal Student Store or Fall Rush in early March.
Graduating seniors do NOT need a ticket for the ceremony.
All guests must have a ticket. See Day-of Information for Guests for a link to purchase tickets.
Unless the commencement sells out, tickets will be available for purchase at the Zellerbach Hall box office on the day of the ceremony.
Diplomas will not be distributed during the UGIS Commencement Ceremony. Graduates will receive commemorative scrolls as they cross the stage.
Degrees are approved approximately 2.5 months after the end of each Fall, Spring, and Summer term. Diplomas will be mailed to your permanent address automatically about four months after your degree is approved. If you need proof of degree completion before your diploma arrives, please contact the Office of the Registrar to request a Certificate of Completion.
