The Student Environmental Resource Center (SERC)

Founded by transfer students from Cal in 2012, the Student Environmental Resource Center (SERC) is a great way to find out about other environmental organizations. It operates as a centralizing organization for the Environmental Community here at Berkeley, with a robust staff of dedicated students and employees. Here is its page on the list of Environmental Student Organizations on Campus.

Find out how you can get funding for sustainability projects.

The Green Initiative Fund is UC Berkeley’s Campus Green Fund. TGIF provides funding, via grants, for projects that improve and support UC Berkeley’s campus sustainability and environmental justice efforts. Students, faculty, and staff of the University of California, Berkeley are encouraged to submit a proposal for consideration by The Green Initiative Fund (TGIF) Committee. Click here or on the graphic on the right to learn more about The Green Initiative Fund.

10.2 Stay Connected with the Berkeley Community and Bay Area

There are many environmental organizations focused on certain communities with different goals in mind. In Berkeley, the Ecology Center is centrally connected and has many resources to get involved! If you wanted to engage with legislation, you could work with the Alameda chapter of Citizens' Climate Lobby. If you want to work to clean up beach pollution, the Surfrider Foundation has frequent beach clean-up events all. There are many different types of environmental organizations with diversified interests and focuses, but all work to serve the planet!

10.3 Staying Educated

There are a wide variety of resources to follow regarding climate change and sustainability. Local Newspapers such as the San Francisco Chronicle are reliable sources of environmental information for your communities. Bay Nature is another source as an award-winning magazine focused on connecting the Bay Area with our greater environment. East Bay Regional Parks such as Crab Cove and Tilden Park host many free educational and nature programs for adults and families alike through their visitor centers.
