Part I

Filter your product and rinse the reaction flask with saturated NaCl solution.
Allow the solids to air-dry, then record the mass of of your product.

The video shows a small Erlenmeyer flask filled with reddish-brown slurry held by a gloved hand above a large plastic tub willed with ice water. A boiling stick is used to scrape the contents of the flask into a Hirsch funnel that has been fitted into a filter flask via a rubber adapter and clamped in place. The arm of the filter flask has been inserted into a large plastic tube that extends off screen. Bright red drops of fluid fall from the funnel into the filter flask below. A pipette is used to transfer a portion of clear liquid from a one-dram vial into the Erlenmeyer flask to rinse it. The rinse is stirred with the boiling stick and added to the Hirsch funnel. Two more portions of clear liquid are used to rinse the flask a second time and the second rinse is also added to the funnel. The contents of the funnel are considerably more liquid now, and the slurry is stirred with the boiling stick.

The photo shows a weighing boat on a laboratory scale. The weighing boat contains a few clumps of dark brown, clay-like solids and the screen on the scale reads “1.278 g.”
