Dissolve the 4-amino starting material in the sodium bicarbonate solution.

The video shows a round bottom flask held in place above a magnetic stir plate by a rubber adapter. A magnetic stir bar, already in motion, is visible in the otherwise empty flask. A gloved hand holding a diagonally folded piece of weighing paper pours the contents of said weighing paper (a moderate portion of white powder) into the flask, and which time the movement of the magnetic stir bar becomes more erratic. A plastic syringe withdraws a 1 mL portion of clear liquid from a one-dram vial and expels the liquid into the round bottom flask. A second 1 mL portion is added, followed by a 0.5 mL portion. At this time, the contents of the flask appear cloudy white, but become more and more transparent with more stirring, until the solution is essentially clear, aside from the bubbles associated with stirring.

What should you do next?

Heat in a warm water bath.

Add the NaNO2.
