Speaking up and speaking out about racism and white supremacy has become a priority for organizations and institutions across the globe, including here at UC Berkeley. However, when it comes to confronting the ways racism shows up in our everyday lives and relationships, it can be difficult to create environments where people can be truly courageous in their own growth and encourage the growth of others. In multinational/multicultural environments, this is further complexified, yet equally critical. In this session, we will focus on skills and practices for higher education professionals working with international students and colleagues to engage in difficult conversations about crucial topics related to race and anti-racism. The intention of this session is to lay the groundwork for pursuing conversations in your workplace and your life.

Briana Bellamy - Intercultural Training Specialist, CIL
Briana Bellamy draws on over 10 years of coaching and facilitation experience rooted in intercultural leadership and adult development, somatic psychology, popular education, restorative justice, and equity and inclusion with a global lens. She also serves as a founding board member of the Healing and Reconciliation Institute (HRI), a non-profit using evidence-based reconciliation tools and practices to heal racial and historical divides.
This workshop is the first part of the multi-faceted event series we have planned for this fall, wherein we will explore the intersections of race, equity, and inclusion in the context of the University's international work. This idea originated from a BIG leadership meeting following the murder of George Floyd wherein we felt compelled to utilize our platform to stand in solidarity with the Black Lives Matter movement and engage the population best poised to influence students' formative cross-cultural experiences: UCB staff and administrators who develop, design, lead, recruit, and advise on internationally-focused programs. Instead of a generic statement of solidarity, we wanted to intentionally use this opportunity to create a thought-provoking professional development event series that explores this topic from different angles.
We welcome any comments, questions, or suggestions you may have about this workshop or the event series more broadly. We look forward to hopefully seeing you on the 24th!
Best regards,
Katrina Koski, MDR (she/her)

We’ve gathered five strategies, one from each of our panelists, that enrollment marketers can start implementing today.
