Elle Morris-Benedict: Elle is a North Carolina born student who double majors in Native American and Legal Studies. She is picking up a digital humanities minor this Summer, stemming from an interest in spatial and textual analysis. She intends to go to law school post-undergrad and focus on data and research justice, tying her legal background together with digital humanities.
Colin Choe: Colin is from Newport Beach, California, majoring in Economics with a minor in Data Science. He is interested in the Digital Humanities due to the bridge it builds between big data and business ethics issues. Upon graduation, Colin plans on working in financial restructuring, to promote ethical change and help in shaping a better world.
Hoan Doan: Hoan is from Bay Point, California, and is a rising senior majoring in Computer Science and Data Science. Hoan became interested in digital humanities after learning that human aspects need to be considered while working with data. As part of this project, Hoan hopes to shed light on the struggles women face in sports in general and basketball in particular, so that our world can become more equitable.
Raquel Iacovou: Raquel is from Playa Vista, California, and is a senior majoring in Data Science with an emphasis in Economics. Raquel became interested in digitalization after working in a biology lab and performing long hours of inputting raw data and calculating it. Through her work, Raquel learned the importance of digitalization as a means of record keeping and easy distribution. She has enjoyed learning the ethical and diverse ways to approach data and plans to implement these teachings in her career.
Tommy Senske: Tommy is from San Clemente, California and is entering his 5th year as a Data Science and Economics major. He became interested in Digital Humanities though the testimonies of his peers who had pursued this form of humanities education. Tommy plans to continue his education in Data Science and algorithmic modeling after graduation and pursue a career in machine learning.
Jude Odicho: Jude is from Modesto, California and is a senior majoring in Economics and minoring in Data Science. He became interested in the field of digital humanities through studying data science and developing an interest in the interplay between data analysis and social impact. Jude plans to work in financial modeling or investment banking after graduation and hopes to utilize his understanding of economic principles, data science techniques, as well as DH insights to contribute to more socially responsible and data-driven financial practices.
Jack Peterson: Jack is a born and raised Berkeley, California native majoring in Environmental Economics and Policy. He became interested in digital humanities after finding the real world value that natural language processing provides. Building from this beginning with NLP, Jack has dived deeper into digital humanities with the intention of improving his abilities to analyze and extrapolate findings from datasets that are not solely quantitative. Jack has used this understanding in his work on his startup ChargeNest when it comes to analyzing large datasets of survey responses. He will be starting in a full time role at Red Ventures as a growth analyst where he will continue to analyze data through tools such as NLP.
