General introduction to cell structure and function, molecular and organismal genetics, animal development, form and function.
General biology of freshwater and marine algae, highlighting current research through reading recent papers and integrating phylogeny, ecology, physiology, genetics, and molecular biology.
Course-based undergraduate research experience featuring an open-ended investigation of algal biochemistry, molecular genetics, and cell biology, culminating in a peer-reviewed term paper. Laboratories also include field trips and observations of representatives of the various algal divisions from our extensive algal culture collection.
Graduate student presentations on selected photosynthesis research papers, both classic and contemporary.
