The New Arctic & the Digital Ocean

November 16-17, 2018 | University of California, Berkeley

Welcoming Details

Welcome! This site will serve as a simple repository for workshop information and documents. The quick links above will take you to detailed directions to the Women's Faculty Club (external link), workshop meeting locations and map, and workshop schedule (also viewable/downloadable in Google calendar/agenda form). The navigation bar includes links to pages with workshop locations, addresses, and a map; a full schedule; a program statement; participant bios and publications, and workshop documents. If you prefer direct links to external Google sites (Calendar, Map, Docs, Drive) where this content is stored, you can use the links at the bottom of this page.

Getting Here

If you're arriving from SFO or OAK, the easiest way to arrive to campus will be via Lyft, Uber, or taxi. From SFO, costs are usually between $40-60; from OAK, between $30-40. You will be reimbursed for your ride. You may also take BART, the regional transit system, which has service from each airport to the Downtown Berkeley station on the edge of campus. If you choose to take BART, please pay close attention to the direction and line of the train; you'll need to be on a Richmond-bound train. You can find additional information regarding BART-Oakland airport connections here, and BART-SFO connections here.

Arrival at UC Berkeley

Once you've arrived to campus/the Women's Faculty Club, you'll be able to check in under your own name. If you have time and energy to spare, we invite you to join us at the old Men's Faculty Club (now named The Faculty Club) across the lawn from the hotel for an informal (and entirely optional) welcome and cocktail, 6:30-7:30.

If not, we will greet you Friday morning at 9:15 in the Women's Faculty Club lobby to walk over to the workshop space in Barrows Hall/Social Science Matrix; of course, feel free to make your way to Barrows independently if you wish. Breakfast is included at the hotel, but if you prefer a better coffee or alternative selection of quick morning bites, consider Babette Coffee Bar in South Hall or Rice and Bones in Wurster Hall, open weekdays only, or Caffe Strada on Bancroft Way, open every day.
