Dear Prospective Graduate Student,
Once again, let me congratulate you on your admission to the graduate program in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering (MSE) at the University of California, Berkeley. This is a special achievement and we are proud to welcome you as the next class in a long history of world-class students. While this goes without saying, as a graduate student, you are an integral part of the Department and we look forward to welcoming you into our community that supports your academic success, professional development, and personal well-being. The MSE program offers unique educational and research opportunities on campus, with industrial partners in Silicon Valley and at the neighboring Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (and other National Labs in the Bay Area), and the wider vibrant community of science and technology in Northern California.
In addition to the University's exceptional academic opportunities, Berkeley is located in a geographic area offering you the opportunity, we hope, to venture off campus and explore the rivers, ocean, mountains, redwood forests, Yosemite, Napa and Sonoma valley wineries, as well as the Bay Area’s dynamic and diverse cities of San Francisco, Oakland, and San Jose.
Again, we look forward to personally welcoming you to UC Berkeley in Fall 2024 and hope that you'll find MSE at Berkeley to be the right fit for you. We are confident that you will find this a truly exciting place to pursue your graduate studies.
