Part 1. Building a better fieldwork future: Preventing and Managing Sexual Harassment and Assault in the field. (2 hrs)

  • Curriculum developed by CAMINO (Center to Advance Inquiry-Based Opportunities in Ecology), University of California, Santa Cruz. Facilitator: Jaemin Lee and Tara Lepore, assisted by two moderators.

  • Interactive workshop consisting of both scenario-based group discussions and information delivery regarding SVSH prevention in field settings.

Part 2. Building more diverse, equitable, and inclusive fieldwork practices. (1 hr)

  • Interactive workshop with discussions of 3 case scenarios involving different identities and situations that may arise in the field.

  • Conversations are meant to be starting points for generating fieldwork handbooks or codes of conduct; using such documents is recommended practice for inclusive and equitable fieldwork (https://urgeoscience.org/).




Warning: This workshop will include discussions about sexual harassment and assault. You are welcome to leave or take a break from the workshop if you need to. All participants will be asked to sign a code of conduct prior to the workshop. For small group discussions, students, postdocs and professionals will be placed in different groups.
