VISION

At L-SIDER we study the relationship between educational practices in schools and communities and the broader socio-historical processes that impact and shape those practices. We work with and develop theoretical and methodological frameworks to understand the transformative potential of educational research and pedagogy. We draw from a variety of disciplines, including  education, sociology, anthropology, ethnic studies, applied linguistics, and critical theory to examine the multiple and complex contexts of learning and instruction. We engage in decolonial and critical projects that seek to recognize and uplift the histories and experiences of racialized and minoritized communities. Our methods include qualitative inquiry, discourse analysis, ethnography, and participatory and community-based research.
