Award Description:
This award recognizes current MCB graduate students and postdocs who have demonstrated outstanding commitment and leadership in fostering a welcoming and supportive environment in the lab and beyond. Their efforts include building community, mentoring peers, advocating for students, engaging in outreach, and supporting graduate student or postdoc organizations.
Who can nominate?
Any MCB department member, including staff, undergraduates, graduate students, research assistants, postdocs, and faculty. Nominators should have direct knowledge of the nominee’s impact or how they embody DEIBJ values. Multiple nominations per candidate are encouraged, as only those with multiple nominations will be considered.
Who can be nominated?
All non-graduating MCB graduate students and postdocs, excluding Equity Committee members and past awardees. Self-nominations are encouraged. N.B.: The MCB Department has a separate award— the Cris Alvaro Memorial Prize—that is bestowed on an MCB graduate student who is receiving her/his/their Ph.D. at the annual MCB Graduate Graduation Ceremony; it is awarded on the basis of both excellence in research and a demonstrated commitment to diversity, inclusion, tolerance, acceptance, and building a sense of community in the MCB Department.
Selection Process:
A select group of MCB Equity Committee members, including postdocs, graduate students, and faculty, will review nominations using a selection rubric. Finalists will be asked to submit their CV or a short prompt for the final review.
