The Graphic Representation workshop will demonstrate raster-based techniques of digital collage using Adobe Photoshop to create a speculative future design for the Postcards from the Future assignment. Instruction will also teach how to create a .gif that shows change over time. Instruction with Adobe Illustrator will demonstrate basic vector-based techniques of graphic design to create Stakeholder Cards that are character studies of community residents. Additionally, premade icons may be used from the thenounproject.com to create images for the Resilience Strategies. This workshop will also introduce the online whiteboard Miro and the Google Drive folders where students will upload work.
This Digital Modeling and Drafting workshop will demonstrate digital 2D drafting and 3D modeling techniques in Rhino software and the use of CADMapper to obtain CAD files for existing urban fabric. Skills learned in the workshops will directly support the studio project work. The workshop will focus on digital drafting and modeling to represent existing urban conditions and components of new proposals for the Urban and Architectural Design. Students will learn a workflow exporting 2D graphics from Rhino to Adobe Illustrator for the purposes of graphic presentation.
The Augmented Reality and Architectural Drawing workshop will be in two parts. The first portion of the workshop will demonstrate how to use Adobe Aero online software to create augmented reality content that will be part of the final project and AR Public Tour along the San Francisco Embarcadero waterfront using a mobile device. The second part of the workshop will focus on creating accurate and persuasive drawings of your design project, including: Section and Elevation, Axonometric, Plan, and Perspective Rendering. Emphasis will be on the conventions of architectural representation, effective drawing types and styles, and the production of compositions using both vector and raster images. Students will learn to apply a software workflow using Rhino graphic exports to Adobe software, Photoshop and Illustrator, to develop high quality presentation materials in the form of representative drawings of the project proposal.
The Presentation Design workshop will be in two parts. The first part of the workshop will focus on developing a cohesive project presentation using Adobe InDesign. The workshop will build upon the software skills and representation techniques in prior workshops with the specific application to presentation quality materials for the studio project. Students will incorporate their Urban and Architectural Designs, Resilient Strategy Toolkit, Stakeholder, and Chance Event Cards. The second portion will be led by DISC Alumni and Urban Designer, Yujin Cao. Yujin will demonstrate how to create architectural representation drawings at an advanced level.
