As we all know, there are a number of OBC members who so generously and so frequently offer up wonderful cards (or coins or stamps or posters or discs, etc) on waivers. Those of us who have taken advantage of this generosity truly appreciate it, and it's one of the many mission-supporting activities that make OBC what it is.
If the rest of you are like me, then you've probably considered running your own waiver wire, but just have never gotten around to it for one reason or another.
Well what better time to finally get involved in the wonderful world of waivers than during Worldwide Waiver Week (WWWW)? The inaugural WWWW will be held Sunday July 13th through Saturday July 19th.
FAQ
What should I offer up on waivers? Whatever you'd like! And whatever you think folks would appreciate or need! Maybe OBC-grade cards from a set where your dupes are plentiful? Or cards you have triplicates or fourplicates of? Or that random card or two you have from a set that you're not collecting. Maybe cards that weren't quite bad enough to send to someone's WSE? A well-loved star or high #? The beauty of the waiver system is that if someone wants it, they'll claim it...if not, they won't.
How do I inform OBC members of my waivers? Use the "OBC Wantlist, Waiver, Wauction and Tradables" email list to announce details of your waiver, and/or include a link to your web page with waiver details, as Randy Krolewicz has done here.
How do I choose "winners" of cards that more than one person expresses interest in? As randomly as possible. Just google "random name picker" to find a free tool to help you randomly pick a name from a list of names. Here's one that Doc Chaos uses for his games. Here's another. There are a bunch more.
What if I don't have anything to offer up on waivers, or I don't have time at the moment, but would be interested at a later date? No worries! No pressure! This is OBC! If this is successful, we'll have another one.
When during WWWW should I send out the email to the "OBC Wantlist, Waiver, Wauction and Tradables" list to offer up my cards? Whenever you'd like, but if you have a bunch of options on what cards/sets to offer, maybe wait until the later half of the week to offer up stuff from sets that haven't been offered yet? Just a thought.
If you have any other questions or ideas, just reply to this email, and hopefully some regular waiverers can respond.
Have a safe and sane WWWW!
