Evaluation

Grades will be largely based on class presentation and projects. In addition, we will require weekly paper summaries submitted before class. No final exam.

  • Project: 50%

  • Weekly Summaries: 20%

  • Class Presentation: 20%

  • Class Participation: 10%

Student Deliverables

  • Paper Reviews (20%): Approx. 33 Paper Reviews - lowest 10 dropped, due before class every student presentation.

    • You do not need to submit a review if you are the lead presenter

    • Please follow this overleaf template and format. Max 2 pages.

    • Submit through bCourses, they are due 11am PT on the day of the class with paper reviews.

    • 4 point evaluation system:

      • ✅➕: Exceptional (97%) - in the top 5%, exceptional and thoughtful review.

      • : Satisfactory (94%) - fine and appropriate graduate-level work done well. Most common.

      • ➖: Poor (85%) - does not engage with the material in enough detail, sloppy, or otherwise bad

      • No work (0%) - not submitted

  • Presentation (20%): - 3 students (lead, advocate, critic) per paper

    • Depending on the final # of class participants, every student needs to do at least 1~2 lead discussion and 2~3 advocate and critic roles.

    • Lead discussion (15min)

    • Advocate & Critic (5 min)

      • Prepare at least 5 points of strength and weaknesses

    • Presenters prepare a votable question to discuss in breakouts

    • Evaluation follows the same 4 point evaluation system (✅➕, ✅, ➖, 0).

  • Project (50%):

    • Choose team members. Maximum team size is 2.

    • Project Proposal: 2-page, not counting references following this format in CVPR style.

    • Final Report: 4~6-page, not counting references CVPR format.

    • 2 minute teaser video along with the report.

      • Use this as an opportunity to learn video editing software such as Premiere / After Effects or iMovie etc. Get access to Adobe Creative Cloud here.

    • 3 Presentations:

      • In-class Project Pitches: Short (~2 min) presentation depending on the # of teams.

        • "Lightning pitch" - 1-2 slides, or no slides.

        • Motivate why you are doing this project, and explain why it is important/exciting

        • Summarize your strategy, what you will do, and what results you expect

      • In-class mid-term update / demos:

        • 3-5 slides on how your project is progressing. What you've accomplished, how you are progressing against your plan. Major learnings, and changes to your plan.

        • If you are having problems, please highlight what issues you are seeing, and be explicit about what help you need.

      • Final presentation: TBD depending on the # of teams.

  • Class Participation (10%): Attendance and general participation in the discussion session.
