Dear Class of 2022,
Milestones matter and we are so thrilled to honor your achievements at Commencement in May!
To honor your class we've created a 2022 Commencement website filled with useful information that you can share with your families.
Helpful information you will find on the site include:
FAQs about the ceremony like obtaining tickets, length of the ceremony and ADA accessibility and parking
Graduation Events that are coming up in May
A Checklist of upcoming deadlines including voting for your class speaker, nominating your peers for Defining Leadership Principle Awards, explaining how you want your name included in the commencement program and a few other things.
Don't forget to cast your vote for Class Speaker and Defining Leadership Principle Award nominees both due April 8, 2022. Links are in the Checklist.
Please note that you are being included in Commencement communications from UC Berkeley Chancellor Christ. Her communications are about the very large ceremony for all Berkeley grads. That is an undergraduate-focused event and not one MBAs usually attend.
If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to us at ftmbalife@haas.berkeley.edu.
Cheers,

Dear graduating MBA students,
I am thrilled to announce that Jagdeep Singh, EWMBA 90, co-founder and CEO of QuantumScape, has accepted our invitation to be the 2022 commencement speaker.
Throughout his career, Jagdeep has questioned the status quo to become a highly successful technology entrepreneur. He co-founded QuantumScape in 2010 with the mission to transform energy storage and support the global transition away from legacy energy sources toward a lower carbon future. QuantumScape develops solid-state lithium metal batteries for electric vehicles.
Prior to founding QuantumScape, he was co-founder and CEO of Infinera and Lightera Networks, both of which build products for optical networking, as well as several other communications companies. He is also the founder and CEO of Deep Valley Labs, a venture laboratory and incubator focused on spinning out high-impact technology companies.
Jagdeep earned his Berkeley Haas MBA in the Evening & Weekend MBA program in 1990. He also holds a BS in Computer Science from the University of Maryland and an MS in Computer Science from Stanford University.
We very much look forward to celebrating your commencement at the Greek Theatre on Friday, May 21, with Jagdeep Singh.

Congratulations to Kokei Otosi, your MBA 22 Class Speaker who garnered the majority of the vote!

My friends!
It was such an honor to even be nominated, alongside two incredible Haasies (please note that all three of us are from GOLD, what an upset).
I'm super excited to reflect on our journey together at graduation—a huge thank you for this.
Sincerely,
Kokei
Dear Class of 2022,
Regalia is now required for Commencement. This follows new knowledge from the Greek Theater – All grads are required to wear regalia for security staffing purposes. By wearing regalia, you are granted access backstage and are allowed to move freely about the event without repeatedly being asked to show a ticket.
We are sorry for any inconvenience this has caused you. Information about purchasing regalia can be found here. All other information about Commencement can be found on the Commencement Google Site.
We are developing an opportunity for you to recycle your regalia after Commencement and will provide more details closer to the date.
For questions or concerns, please reach out to ftmbalife@haas.berkeley.edu.
The FTMBA Program Office

Dear Class of 2022,
We look forward to seeing you and your guests at graduation on Saturday, May 21st! Please review the following reminders:
1. Ceremony Details
2. Security Protocol
3. Livestream
4. Parking
5. What’s Allowed at the Greek?
6. Reception
7. Hand-Me-Gown Program
1. Ceremony Details
The MBA Commencement will take place on Saturday, May 21 at 2PM at the Greek Theatre.
All guests (including children and infants) must have a ticket to the ceremony. If you have not picked up your tickets, they will be available in the Program Office this week, and at the Commencement Celebration on Friday from 4-6pm. Graduates in regalia do not need tickets.
Graduates need to arrive between 12:30PM and 1PM at the Greek Theatre South End Entrance (closer to Haas) and head to the backstage area dressed in your cap and gown. Proceed to the FTMBA table and pick up a name card. Only graduates in regalia will be admitted backstage.
Please allow plenty of time to park (more parking info below).
Instruct guests to arrive early (gates open at 1PM) and enter through the North Entrance (closer to Hearst Street). Guests needing ADA assistance should enter through the South Entrance (closer to Haas). Read more about ADA logistics here.
There is no special seating order for graduates. You will be in a single file line when the ceremony begins, so line up with the person you wish to sit with.
All graduates will stay for the entire ceremony, which ends at approximately 4PM.
The forecast is unpredictable. Check the weather report and advise your guests to dress appropriately as the Greek Theatre is not covered. Graduates - on a sunny day your black gowns can get rather warm. Due to uneven surfaces in the Greek, we advise that high heel shoes be avoided.
2. Security Protocol
All guests entering the Greek Theatre will be required to walk through metal detectors. Please ensure that guests arrive early enough to allow for this security step. While the stadium has numerous metal detectors at the entrance, and the security staff will ensure the process is as speedy as possible, guests should allocate additional time to enter the theatre. Remember, the processional will start promptly at 2PM.
3. Livestream
The commencement ceremony will be livestreamed here. Please share this link with family and friends who aren’t able to attend. The ceremony will also be recorded and available to watch a few days after the ceremony from the same link.
4. Parking
General parking for your guests will be available in the Foothill Lot (on Cyclotron Road, east of Highland Avenue) and the Upper Hearst Structure (at the corner of Hearst Ave and Gayley Rd). The cost will be $10.00 (credit card only).* Please visit the Commencement website for more information.
* Please note that these prices are subject to change
Your Spring N/W “S” permits are valid for Commencement, following normal parking permit rules. Please review the rules on the Parking FAQ page.
The Stadium Parking Lot next to Bowles/Memorial Stadium is a paid public lot and generally has a high flat event rate.
5. What’s Allowed at the Greek?
Allowed:
Small umbrellas for sun or rain
Water bottles
NOT Allowed:
Strollers (There will be stroller parking at both entrances)
Coolers or ice chests
Large blankets
Tobacco products
Noisemakers
Large signs
Alcoholic beverages
Bicycles
Skateboards
Large bags or backpacks (purses are fine, though they may be searched)
Pets
Balloons (may be tied up and left at entrance)
6. Reception
The ceremony will be followed by a reception from 4-5:30PM in the Haas Courtyard. Everyone is welcome to attend. Tickets are not required.
7. Hand-Me-Gown Program
You can donate your gown and hood to the Class of 2023. Look for blue bins at the reception to donate your gown and hood.

See you on Saturday!

Berkeley Haas FTMBA 2022 Alumni,
You have completed your Berkeley Haas education brilliantly, and I am excited to welcome you into your Berkeley Haas Alumni Network as ALUMNI!
As alumni, you have access to tremendous complimentary lifelong alumni benefits. So many that I am going to send information and direct links out to you through emails and Slack throughout the next few months (please continue to read my emails). Everything that attracted you to Berkeley Haas is a reason to stay in touch.
Until then, as we share our congratulations, let me also share a few fun facts about graduation for tomorrow (questions that we are frequently asked):
Your tassel goes on the right prior to receiving your degree.
Don’t worry about putting your hood on correctly, we will take care of it for you at the Greek prior to the ceremony (I got you!).
The velvet color on your hood is brown (formally called: Drab), visually representing that you are a recipient of a Business degree. The brown color is the side that is visible at your neckline.
The blue & gold on your hood represent UC Berkeley’s colors- Go Bears!
I am sending so much love and congratulations to all of you from your Berkeley Haas alumni family as you formally transition from student to alumnus. We cannot wait to continue to celebrate you throughout your lifetime.
You are Berkeley Haas - what we are now and what we will be. Thank you for being a member of this exceptional community.
With Congratulations, Thanks & Gratitude,
