A digital balance is used to weigh the mass of sodium bicarbonate (~0.5 g).
If you dispense a little more or less than 0.5 g, that is fine. Just record all decimal places displayed on the balance.
Record the mass of sodium bicarbonate in your lab notebook.
After using the balance, make sure that all spills are properly cleaned.
Using a plastic pipet, measure the amount of 6.0 M acetic acid calculated on the previous page.
Squeeze the bulb on the plastic pipet, then insert the tip of the pipet into the acetic acid solution.
Slowly let some pressure off the bulb to draw liquid into the pipet until the bottom of the meniscus is on the line for the volume you want to measure.
Add the sodium bicarbonate to the airbag and pack it into one corner.
Fold the airbag over to avoid premature mixing of the reactants.
Insert the pipet into the airbag and seal it up to the pipet bulb to drive out excess air.
