The California Social Work Education Center (CalSWEC) and the California Department of Social Services (CDSS) are delighted to invite you to the 2022 Fairness and Equity Symposium: Advancing Equity Through Prevention. Welcome!

In years past, the Fairness and Equity Symposium provided an essential statewide forum for those interested in leveraging workforce development to reduce institutional bias and disparities in service provision and advance social justice in the child welfare system. After a few years off, we are so excited this important event is happening again.

Presentations:

This year, we will focus on prevention through the lens of equity. Presentations will take place from 9:00am to noon on both September 15th and 16th. Our broad range of topics include: how we can sustain our equity practice, the ways racial disparity data can be used to promote effective prevention strategies, the multi-system approach that reduced racial disparity in Sacramento county's child welfare system, a look at reunifying families and their success from a prevention perspective, and the development and use of a tool to examine elements of our culturally responsive practice behaviors. As the child welfare system in California focuses ever more intently on prevention, we hope this event will bring together bold ideas, expansive and creative thinkers.

Networking Lunch:

After the presentations on both Thursday and Friday, the website will remain open to allow an informal opportunity to connect with each other and deepen the work we started in the morning sessions. From noon to 1:00pm, a few of the presenters and other attendees will gather to get acquainted, share ideas, and further explore the topics of the day. Grab your lunch and join us!
