About the Berkeley Science Network Leadership Program

The Berkeley Science Network Leadership Program (BSN-LP) provides a combination of financial support, academic enrichment, mentoring, professional development resources, and leadership preparation to students and in the following majors: Astronomy, Physics, Earth and Planetary Science, Geology, Geophysics, Chemistry, Chemical and Bimolecular Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics, Applied Mathematics, and Statistics.

The Berkeley Science Network Leadership Program’s (BSN-LP) objective is to support academically meritorious students, with an emphasis on students from groups underrepresented in science, who have financial need. BSN-LP is designed to assist them so they succeed academically, graduate, and achieve their highest aspirations for their careers in the Mathematical and Physical Sciences (MPS).

The BSN-LP Program provides student scholars with coaching, mentoring, strategic guidance, and specialized professional development workshops, leadership development opportunities and activities. BSN-LP students are embedded in a mentoring network of peers, near peers, faculty, professional scientists, and alumni who are further advanced on the academic pathway. The financial support will relieve talented students with financial need. For the Fall 2020 the BSN-LP Program offers a scholarship in the amount of $2500, with the possibility of continued support in Spring 2020 based on funding availability.

Benefits of the Program

As a Berkeley Science Network Leadership Program scholarship recipient, you will:

This group will provide formal mentoring, networking, and professional development activities and will give students information about and increase their access to learning opportunities that are important for advancing in science.

  • receive information about opportunities on campus, in California, and across the nation that can enhance your chances of success as an undergraduate and that will help you achieve your dreams to go to graduate school or join the professional scientific workforce after you graduate.

  • participate in the BSN-LP Mentorship Program, a mentoring network that will pair you with a graduate student mentor in the Mathematical and Physical Sciences to support you in post-graduation education and career planning.
