Welcome to the 2026 Berkeley/Davis Moot Court Invitational!
UC Davis and UC Berkeley are thrilled to co-host this year’s virtual tournament. Designed to expand competitive opportunities across the circuit, the invitational features both a Novice Division and an Experienced Division. Whether you are stepping into the oral argument room for the first time or fine-tuning your advocacy for national rounds, we are excited to welcome you!
Eligibility:
To be eligible for the Novice Division, no competitor shall have had a college-level moot court competition prior to the Fall 2026 season, intepreted as not having entered an AMCA regional competition on a prior topic.
To be eligible for the Experienced Division, at least one competitor shall have had a college-level moot court competition experience prior to the Fall 2026 season, interpreted as having entered an AMCA regional competition on a prior topic (i.e., not a novice team).
Entries: A school may register for up to three teams, per division, before September 26 or until capacity is reached (32 two-person teams, per division). Names of competitors may be entered later, after all regional tournaments have been held. After September 26, schools may enter three additional teams, per division, or until capacity is reached. Being an online tournament, the maximum size of the tournament is limited by the Zoom environment, which allows up to 1,000 participants in 100 breakout rooms (note: both divisions will be hosted on one Zoom environment). See below for a link to registration.
Judging: Each two-person team is requested to provide a judge. As a thank you for a team providing a judge, we will be reimbursing a portion of the registration fee after the tournament dependent on how many rounds the judge is available ($20 if only available for prelim rounds, $30 if available for the whole tournament).
Judges may be coaches, AMCA alumni, attorneys, law students, professors, or anyone with equivalent experience (One judge slot can be filled by two different people across the two days of the tournament). In all cases, we encourage teams to seek judges who will keep in mind both the educational and competitive aspects of a tournament aimed at younger competition.
Entry Fee: $100 per team.
Registration Rules:
Until September 26, 2026:
Capped at 32 total teams (per division)
Schools are capped at 3 teams each (per division)
Entry fees are $100 and should be paid on Venmo to @RenaAtaran
Providing a judge gives a refund after the tournament of $20 (if available for all preliminary rounds) or $30 (if available for all rounds).
Only one person needs to fill out the registration form for each team
