I am currently working across campus to launch a venture studio for Space, Air, and Sea technology needs, solving pinch points in innovation-to-commercialization. My current research covers transition finance and the innovation gap. My research spans household finance, algorithms in finance, energy transitions, corporate governance, impact investing, venture and small business finance, and pension management. Please see my Research here.
From 2021-2023, I served as Deputy Assistant Secretary for Capital Access at the Department of the Treasury, working on industrial strategy, public-private partnerships, public health, energy transition finance, auto supply chains, national security innovation financing, and small business finance.
Together with Professor Laura Tyson, I Co-Founded and am Faculty Director of the SAIF center of impactful finance at Berkeley-Haas. At SAIF, I oversee an impactful finance sequence of courses for students, many of which I created with industry partnerships and fundraising. For example, after teaching New Venture Finance for many years, I creating a new fund-as-curriculum model for private markets. I run the Haas Impact Fund (seed investment fund) with MBA partners to invest in sectors such as energy, food, agriculture, the built environment, life sciences, waste and advanced materials, fintech, and health.
I am proud to have started my career as an entrepreneur and small business owner, struggling for finance like millions of others.
