Post-Secondary planning: How to Accomplish it WITH the student, not FOR the student

Presenter: Nick Liulakus, Secondary Counselor

As our students approach graduation, it's only natural for a postsecondary or transition plan to come together, especially as they strive to make progress towards their future goals. As educators and support staff, it is our responsibility to offer assistance and guidance during this transitional phase. However, there's a tendency for us to take over and complete or pursue these goals on behalf of the students. There might be thoughts like, "I'll just fill out this form and have the student/parent sign it... It's just easier!"

In doing so, are we genuinely serving our students, or are we inadvertently doing them a disservice by taking control of the process?
