Our AP-WE service project for the 2017-2018 school year is to support biodiversity within our own region. We have decided to focus on reintroducing native plants to the area and educating the community on the importance of these plants to our local environment. Over ¼ of plant species in Ohio are invasive, non-native species. These invasive species can hurt the local habitat by introducing new diseases, displace native plants, and impact wildlife that depend on native plants to survive. The invasive species can also cause economic damage and destroy our already depleting natural resources. A healthy and diverse ecosystem is important for clean air and water, soil stability and provides critical food and shelter for wildlife.
