5-12th Grade Orchestra Supply Lists

All students need:

• an instrument in good working order with fine tuners (click HERE for more details)

• a bow

• rosin

• a soft cloth for cleaning

• a shoulder rest for violin and viola players

• a rock stop for cello and bass players

• a Snark tuner (or comparable clip-on tuner)

• a folding music stand  (for at-home use)

• a String Basics Book- ***New this year: Books will be purchased with school fees. There is no need to purchase a String Basics book from a music store. 

• PLEASE NOTE: Students are still responsible for their copy of the book. If it is lost, the student will need to purchase another one.

5th and 6th Grade: String Basics, Steps to Success for String Orchestra, Book 1

7th Grade: String  Basics, Steps to Success for String Orchestra, Book 2 

8th Grade:  String Basics, Steps to Success for String Orchestra,  Book 2 and 3 . 

BMHS students: We will use String Basics, Book 3 from time to time, so keep it in your music folders. We have class sets of Sound Orchestra: Ensemble Development for String Orchestra and Habits of a Successful String Musician to use during instruction, but it is highly encouraged to get your own copies for practicing at home!
