Application Process

STUDENTS - Start the application process here:

1. APPLICATION STARTER

(The application process is closed for the 2021-2022 school year)
Complete the virtual academy Application Starter

2. Collect two letters of recommendation (e.g. employer, pastor, volunteer organization, club sponsor, athletic coach, etc). Letters should not come from a member of the student's family. These will be submitted to Virtual Academy Administrator in Step 6.

3. READ AGREEMENTS & CONTRACTS
   - Read Virtual Academy Plan

Code of Conduct student handbook.

- Electronic User Agreement (Acceptable Use Policy)
- Virtual Academy Contract.

4. ACADEMIC HISTORY
   If the student has attended Berea Community Schools for most of their academic career, the district can retrieve transcript and other academic history. However, if the student has been homeschooled or attended out-of-district, you will be required to supply transcripts and other academic records to a school guidance counselor. These documents will be submitted to the Virtual Administrator in Step 7.

Virtual Administrator - After you complete the Application Starter, email the virtual administrator (bonita.cobb@berea.kyschools.us) to complete the tasks below. Please note that it may be several days before you are contacted.

5. SCHEDULE ENTRANCE EXAM
   Complete the i-Ready Diagnostic (elementary and middle school) and achieve on-grade-level scores in math AND reading. This will need to be completed at the school.

6. COLLECT RECOMMENDATION LETTERS (See Step 2)

7. COLLECT ACADEMIC HISTORY (See Step4)

REVIEW TEAM - After all application materials have been received, a team will meet to review the documents and any other relevant considerations, including:

   • If enrolled in a Berea Community Schools during the 2020-2021 school year, a team may analyze grades, notes from teachers and principals in Infinite Campus, and consult students’ previous teachers. A history of success in a virtual academic setting is important.

   • If not enrolled in a Berea Community Schools during the 2020-2021 school year, you will provide evidence of success in a prior school setting, such as homeschool.

NOTIFICATION - You will be notified as soon as possible of the team's decision. Please consider that this program is new, the processes are new, and schools may be busy with programs -- all of which may delay staffs' response times.

10. ORIENTATION & CLASS SCHEDULING
    Once accepted, the student and guardian will attend an orientation meeting, during which you will:

    • Enroll as a student of Berea Community Schools, if you are not already enrolled.

    • Work with a counselor to build a class schedule

    • Receive login credentials for school email and network access, as well as online platforms.

    • Sign Agreements and Contracts (see Step 3)
