Heather received the call at 2 pm, and by 4:30 pm we had a one year old in our home. This is a big stretch because we are prepared for infants, not crawlers, but God does not call us to the easy, and we trust that He will give us the strength that we need.

On October 19, Heather got a phone call from the German Human Services, that there was a baby who needed a short term foster care placement. Heather went to the hospital on the 20th, and had to witness the conversation between the social workers and the mom that she was not going to be allowed to take her baby from the hospital. There were several things that the social workers had told the mom earlier that she needed to do, and she had ignored their warnings. Needless to say, this was a tense and emotional moment for everyone involved. As Heather started the checkout procedure with the doctors, they discovered that the baby had a fever and the baby ended up staying in the hospital for another 3 days and Heather spent many hours with the baby in the hospital as the legal guardian. The following week the baby came into our home. It was a crazy week, and we did not know how long we would have the baby with us. We thought that we would have him until mid November, but the following Monday Heather received a call that the mom had gotten things in order, and the baby had a safe home to go home to. On Monday, October 30th, Heather had another meeting with the social workers and the mom, but this time it was on happier terms. The mom was even able to thank and hug Heather for all that we had done to love and care for the baby during those 10 days of uncertainty.
