Dear Vaughn Families,
Happy New Year! We’re excited to welcome everyone back and continue our journey of learning and growth in 2025.
As colder weather sets in, please ensure students dress appropriately for the season. Don’t forget to label all coats, hats, gloves, and sweatshirts with your child’s name.
I also want to share the district's inclement weather procedures for future reference. When weather and road conditions are a concern, district-level school officials drive the roads to check for areas of difficulty. Their goal is to make school closing decisions by 5:00 am each morning. Should we cancel school, you’ll receive an email and a phone call using the primary contact information listed in your eSchool account. If you need to update your information, please call the office at 479-254-5500. Closure information will also be shared on Facebook and Twitter @Bville_Schools.
In the event that the district needs to run limited bus routes, you will be notified. Pick-up and drop-off details will be available on the Bentonville Schools website.
If you are interested in exploring Bentonville Schools' Parent Choice model, I encourage you to attend the Parent Choice Informational Night on January 8th to learn about elementary options and hear from administrators at Apple Glen, The International School, Sugar Creek Arts Academy, and Thomas Jefferson Leadership Academy.
Thank you for your continued partnership!

Hello Parents!
Welcome to 2025! I am excited for a great New Year. Let's start the new year right with some healthy habits. Please make sure your student is bringing a water bottle daily so that they stay hydrated. Let's encourage healthy snacks and lunches with limited sugar. Students should be active and get plenty of exercise. It is still cold and flu season so let's encourage lots of handwashing and covering any coughs. If your student exhibits any fever, vomiting, or diarrhea, they are to remain home a full school day without fever reducing medication before returning to school. Also, please make sure your student has a change of weather appropriate clothes in their backpack daily. I wish you and your family a very Happy and Healthy New Year. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me at bclupny@bentonvillek12.org. I am very happy to help!
Thank you volunteers!
Thank you to those that helped to decorate the school in holiday cheer and those that helped with Holiday Shop! We are TRULY grateful for each of you!
Welcome back! We’re so excited to kick off a fresh new year of reading adventures!
Rainbow Bingo
If your K–2nd grader hasn’t started their Rainbow Bingo, there’s still plenty of time! The Purple Party is in May, so they have four months to complete all six cards. Let’s make reading colorful and fun!
What Students Are Learning
Kindergarten: Students will explore making predictions and dive into our nonfiction section for the first time.
First Grade: We’re focusing on story elements to strengthen comprehension.
Second Grade: Students will learn about identifying and understanding problems and resolutions in stories.
Third Grade: It’s all about guide words! Students will practice finding information in reference books.
Fourth Grade: We’re sharpening research skills by learning how to take effective notes from nonfiction materials.
Here’s to a fantastic season of growth and discovery in the library!
Hey everyone! Hope everyone had an amazing break! All the grades will be working on nature in Arkansas artworks for a collaborative art show with K-6 schools here in Bentonville. Details will come later about it but I’m excited to see what they come up with!
Happy New Year, Vaughn Families!
Physical Education in January will be packed with lots of large group activities and team games! Our 3rd and 4th grade students will be playing three modified, indoor versions of kickball! We will be stressing the importance of teamwork and strategy. Kindergarten, 1st grade, and 2nd grade students will be participating in tossing and catching activities, learning a few whole group fitness games, and reviewing our locomotor skills.
Coach LaValle, Coach McFadden, and I are excited to be back with your students!
- Mrs. Mackey
Kindergarten: We are starting a unit on instrument families: woodwind, brass, percussion, and strings. Try to identify different instruments you may hear on the radio or on tv.
First Grade: We will be learning about sounds, rests, notes, and rhythms.
Second Grade: We will begin learning about note duration, accent marks, and how to write notes and rests. A great connection is cooking! Whole cup, half cup, and quarter cup measurements. How many halves in a whole? Quarters?
Third Grade: Recorders!!! We will dig into form, introductions, and refrains. We can analyze our favorite songs and determine their forms.
Fourth Grade: Recorders!!! We will be taking a deeper look into instrument families and orchestral instruments. Consider having a conversation about what instrument your child might want to learn in middle school.
Happy New Year!
As we embrace the winter season, we will embark on an exploration of colder countries, including Finland and Switzerland, among others! Our students have enjoyed learning about the vibrant cultures of Spain, Italy, and France. They have engaged in delightful activities such as singing "Frère Jacques," playing the castanets, and expressing their artistic talents by drawing beautiful landscapes and landmarks.I am always impressed by the creativity and talent displayed by our students across all grades. I look forward to witnessing even more of their imaginative expressions throughout the year!
Fourth grade has been buzzing with learning! In literacy, students are diving into geology-themed texts, sharpening their reading and comprehension skills while exploring fascinating earth science topics. Math lessons have focused on mastering division and interpreting bar graphs, with students using real-world data to practice these essential skills. In science, we are wrapping up our unit on the processes that shape the Earth, exploring how forces like erosion, weathering, and plate tectonics have transformed our planet over time. These connections help students see how subjects build on one another. We’re so proud of their curiosity and hard work!
In Literacy, 3rd grade is studying Unit 5 - Light and Sound. Through literature and science experiments, students have learned about different light sources, shadows, mirrors, reflection, refraction, lenses and color. They have also learned about the characteristics of sound, as well as the human voice. This unit also includes learning about two famous inventors who worked with light and sound: Alexander Graham Bell and Thomas Edison.
2nd graders have been working on reading with a partner and answering questions about details in a text.
First graders are working hard to practice identifying and encoding vowel digraphs.
Our kindergarteners have been diligently learning their letter sounds! Last week, Mrs. Perella's class added some fun to their review by using shaving cream. The students enjoyed this hands-on activity while practicing their writing skills. Great job, kindergarteners—keep up the fantastic work!
Our value this month is resilience. Resilience is all about staying strong when things get rough. It’s about believing in yourself, even when it feels like the whole world is against you.
It’s about picking yourself up when you fall down and dusting yourself off to try again. Remember, it’s okay to ask for help when you need it. Whether it’s talking to a trusted adult, a friend, or even just taking a deep breath
and reminding yourself that you’ve got this – there’s always support around you.
