Sonoma County Road Repair Overview

September, 2026: Several county reports and maps are posted that help explain Sonoma County’s pavement preservation program for its road system.

The October 2014 Long-term Road Plan, prepared by the Department of Transportation and Public Works [now Public Infrastructure], provides an overview of how our road system is funded, the general types of maintenance repairs that are used, and how priorities are established. The 2022 Long Term Road Plan Update is the most recent update to the 2014 Long-term Road Plan.

The Primary Roads Map, approved by the Board of Supervisors in 2012, identifies about 200 miles of the county’s 1,368 miles of road that are the highest priority to maintain. The 2026 Map of County Road Categories includes the primary roads (here classified as Federally eligible roads) as well as the network of significant rural roads, which includes Bennett Valley Road, Grange/Crane Creek Road, Sonoma Mountain Road, and Pressley Road. The 2024-25 Pavement Management Program Update Final Report by Harris and Associates provides the Pavement Condition Index (PCI) information for each segment of county road. It is updated every few years.

The lists of roads that have been or are to be repaired under the County’s Pavement Preservation Program are provided for years 2024-2025 and 2026-2027. There is also a map identifying those roads in the 2026-2027 list that will be repaired in 2026.
