Many of the clips featured in this film were shared by teachers and students on the parent/student communication app Seesaw. Juniper parents get inside glimpses into what their student is doing during the day.
Juniper Wildcats begin coding instruction in kindergarten and continue building skills through fifth grade. Juniper accomplishes this unique program through professional development and code.org.
Did you know 90% of parents want their child to study computer science but only 47% of high schools teach it? Juniper works to fill this gap starting at the elementary level.
Check out this code.org short film to learn more.
Get caught up with how Juniper integrates technology into education.
Juniper elementary students participate in a variety of computer science enrichment activities:
Tech Buddies, where primary and upper grades join forces for student-to-student learning and mentoring.
Tech Week in the media center focuses on robotics, digital creativity, and citizenship.
Battle Bots and Rocketry offer engaging opportunities for the whole school, whether as a participant or spectator.
Coding Contest and Projects during the global Computer Science Education Week and Hour of Code in December.
Bring a Parent to Tech Week where parents are invited to join their students in the classroom and share the learning about computer science.
Like any traditional school, we teach foundational skills in reading, writing, and math using paper and pencil, but overlay a computer science curriculum in all grade levels which maintains a healthy balance of targeted screen time that is purposeful.
Oregon Department of Education (ODE) previously identified Juniper as Model School and received a rating of Level 5, the highest rating. Juniper is home to the 2016 Oregon Teacher of the Year as well as a number of Nationally Board Certified Teachers and other amazing staff.
The Juniper Media Center is a place to spark creativity. We've got a makerspace for free-create and STEM lessons, four Raspberry Pi computers for keyboard and mouse practice and additional coding and digital creativity opportunities, four varieties of robots, thousands of books for even our most dedicated readers, and of course story time!
