Wednesday, May 17th = STEM Night from 5-7 PM.... please come join us as students share their STEM learning school-wide. Also, see STEM-related professionals share their interesting careers and how to engage youth at the local level.
Wednesday, May 24th = Obstacle-athon... a fundraiser to support our Music and PE programs, as well as PTA! Students brought home an envelope describing the activity and how families can support it. All students will participate in the obstacle-athon as they run through a course for 20 minutes during their regular Music-PE time. Laps run by students are recorded and reported back to fundraiser supporters to collect donations. The fundraising portion is NOT required, but will support your child's learning at Buckingham.
No School on Memorial Day.... Monday, May 29th.
Book Bag: Your child's teacher may be sending home a zip lock bag of books at your child's level soon. These are books that they've already practiced at school. Please keep these all year and have students practice reading each night, as well as read to them nightly. Tips on practicing reading include: read the pages together, read a page and have them repeat you, you read a page/they read a page, help them practice sounding out unknown words/chant tricky sight words. It's also fun for students to read the book to others, a pet, or stuffed animal. Asking them questions about any books you read is also great for comprehension skills. Examples: Who was in the story? What happened? Where? Why do you think that happened or how do you think they feel and why? Was it fiction or non-fiction and why?
Heart Words: First grade heart words are listed on this website (under sight words) and should also be practiced at home when time allows. Tips include: chant the words, write the words in sand/sugar/salt, rainbow spells the words in 3 different colors, make a bingo, memory, or go fish game with the words, or simply practice reading the words/repeating you or writing the words in a sentence.
Wednesdays: will always be early release days. Students will be let out at 12:45pm, allowing teachers and staff the opportunity to collaborate and partake in educational trainings.
Snacks: Please have your child bring one healthy snack a day. We would greatly appreciate any class donations for individually packaged snacks to have on hand. Examples: granola bars, apple sauce pouches, fruit snacks, goldfish crackers, pretzels, and teddy grahams. THANKS SO MUCH!
Breakfast & Lunch: Breakfast will be available every morning at 7:15 am to purchase in our cafeteria. Students can bring a packed lunch from home each day or can purchase a school lunch. You can start a meal account or apply for free and reduced meals by visiting the following link:

This way, Margaret can get a note to your child before the end of the day. Thanks.... this way we can assure your child's safe return home every day.
Bronco folders: Bronco folders will be sent home every Friday. It will contain school flyers and classwork. If there isn't anything to send that week, then we won't send them home. Please Return The Blue Bronco Folders After Each Time They Are Sent Home!
Birthdays: For student birthdays, we ask that you do not send in birthday party invitations unless the entire class is invited. We have had too many hurt feelings when just a few invitations are being passed out. Due to time constraints, food allergies, etc, we also ask that treats are not sent in for birthdays. We will have special ways to honor the birthday child in class instead! 🎉 Enjoy celebrating with your child at home!
