3 - Personal Found Poem

Creating Your Found Poem on Social Justice

Goal: Create a poem that is personally meaningful using/adapting pieces of the books we've read and that in some way reflects on the messages of those books and/or something meaningful to you related to those books.

1. Complete the Found Poem planning sheet (use the copy in Google Classroom) using the 5 books we have studied. You may also choose to use other sources and/or King's Mountaintop speech.

2. Create a Google Doc for the assignment in Google Classroom.

3. Arrange your poem until you feel it is the way you would like it to read.

4. Open the Found Poem Reflection document and answer the following questions:

   • What is the message of your poem? 

   • What “evidence” can be found in your poem that supports this message? 

   • Why is this message important to you?

   • How does the message of your poem relate to the books we have been reading?

   • What did you think of the experience of writing this poem? In what way did working on this poem deepen your understanding of or personal reflections on the books we have been reading?
