In Reception, we have been finding, representing and making the numbers 6, 7 and 8 in Maths. The children began by exploring different ways to represent these numbers. They then created their own representations and went on to show how to make 6, 7 and 8 using two groups. The children did a fantastic job, and it was wonderful to see them confidently using these skills during independent learning.
Practising writing all her numbers.
Showing how many ways to make 7.
Writing number sentences for 8.
Representing the number with manipulatives and then writing number sentences.
The children learnt the song ‘One Potato, Two Potato’ and then printed while counting.
The children used the pictures to help them copy the pattern.
On Friday afternoon, Starlings and Swifts enjoyed a creative clay session, carefully crafting their own beautiful roses. The results were fantastic and I’m sure you’ll agree they did a great job.
💻 Year 4 Become budding coders!
In Year 4, the children have been exploring coding using Turtle Academy, a text-based programming language where typed commands are transformed into drawings on screen. Pupils learned the basic Logo commands and used their growing knowledge to read and write their own code.
The Nightingales investigated how different commands moved the turtle in various directions before creating their own algorithms to form letters of the alphabet. This proved quite challenging, as they had to carefully plan each movement and turn before running their programs.
The children showed fantastic perseverance and problem-solving skills- we definitely have some future coders amongst us! 🌟
Over the past few weeks, Year 6 have taken part in some truly enjoyable and enriching workshops that have brought a wonderful buzz to the classroom.
We began with an art workshop led by two visiting art teachers from Abbot's Hill. They introduced the children to a range of watercolour techniques, helping them experiment with colour, texture and detail. Using either a succulent plant or a beetle as their inspiration, the pupils created their own final pieces, and many of the results were genuinely impressive. It was lovely to see how proud they were of what they produced.
More recently, Year 6 celebrated World Religion Day with a lively Afrobeats dance workshop. The instructor guided them through a short routine, encouraging everyone to get involved and enjoy the rhythm. The highlight was watching the pupils add their own personal flair at the end, showing real confidence and creativity.
It’s been a fantastic few weeks, full of new experiences and opportunities to shine. Year 6 have embraced everything with enthusiasm, and it’s been wonderful to see their skills and self‑expression grow.

On Monday, the children of Belswains celebrated World Religion Day. We had a wonderful time, with many children wearing traditional clothing, bringing in special items, and taking part in dances from around the world. Everyone joined in, and pupils were able to share their faith within their classes. It was a fantastic opportunity to celebrate our diversity and to learn from one another about the cultures and faiths that make up our community.
This year, the school council will also be supporting children from the younger year groups. Every year, a new school council is elected to represent Belswains Primary School. Each class takes part in a democratic vote to choose their school council representative. These representatives attend meetings, organise whole-school events, and help raise money for charities.
